The Deputy Editorial Director of Vatican Media, Alessandro Gisotti, has been elected President of the Radio and Audio News Group (RANG) of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), representing Vatican Radio. He succeeds German journalist Stephanie Pieper of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg. Gisotti began working at Vatican Radio in 2000 and has been a member of RANG since 2021.

The Radio and Audio News Group brings together values and best practices on editorial and ethical issues in the radio and audio sector at the European level. It pools the expertise of directors, journalists, and producers for the benefit of all EBU members. The RANG meets several times a year to discuss trending topics, focusing especially on the impact of new technologies on information and media in Europe.

Vatican Radio is a founding member of the EBU, which this year marks its 75th anniversary and today brings together 113 public broadcasting organizations from 56 countries.

“I am very honored,” said Gisotti, “to be the new President of the EBU Radio and Audio News Group, where for several years I have had the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with colleagues from the most important public radio broadcasters in Europe.”

“I am convinced that radio remains essential in the era of Artificial Intelligence because it offers reliable information and a connection with the community that algorithms cannot replace,” he said. “This is a particularly important value today, at a time when we are witnessing the spread of false news and disinformation, especially on online platforms.”
