Pope receives Fijian President in audience

Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu, President of Fiji, meets with Pope Leo and Vatican diplomats for talks on the socio-political situation of his country, with particular focus on environmental protection and the fight against transnational crimes.

This morning, Thursday October 30, Pope Leo XIV received the President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu, in audience in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace.

Mr Lalabalavu subsequently met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Holy See Secretary of State, accompanied by Msgr. Daniel Pacho, Undersecretary for the Multilateral Sector of the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations.

Talks at the Secretariat of State

“During the cordial talks in the Secretariat of State,” reads a note from the Holy See Press Office, "both parties expressed satisfaction for the existing bilateral relations and appreciation for the role of the Church in the country."

“The discussions,” the communiqué continues, “also touched upon some aspects of the country’s socio-political situation, including environmental protection and the fight against transnational crimes".
