Pope Leo receives the President of the Swiss Confederation

Pope Leo XIV welcomed the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, in the Vatican on Wednesday morning, prior to the annual swearing-in of the Swiss Guards.

Pope Leo XIV received the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, in the Vatican on Wednesday morning,ahead of the afternoon annual swearing-in ceremony of the Swiss Guards.

Following the meeting with the Pope, the Swiss President met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

In a subsequent statement issued by the Holy See Press Office, it was noted that the discussions were cordial and that satisfaction was expressed for the good and fruitful bilateral relations, noting the faithful and professional service of the Pontifical Swiss Guard.

During the continued discussions, the statement noted, the parties focused on matters of common interest at the international and regional levels.

Particular reference, it said, was made to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, reaffirming the willingness to collaborate at the multilateral level for the promotion of peace.
