Dicastery for Communication signs agreement with Polish radio stations
By Wojciech Rogacin
The heads of seven regional Polish Radio stations travelled personally to Rome, while agreements are scheduled to be signed remotely with Polish Radio stations in Rzeszów, Białystok, and Kielce.
On the occasion, the Polish guests took part in Pope Leo XIV’s Wednesday General Audience. Afterwards, they met the Holy Father together with Andrea Tornielli, Editorial Director of Vatican Media, his deputy and Director of Vatican Radio/Vatican News, Massimiliano Menichetti, and Fr. Paweł Rytel-Andrianik, head of the Polish Section of Vatican Radio/Vatican News and of the Polish edition of L’Osservatore Romano.
The guests presented the Pope with a symbolic boat set in amber which has been collected for centuries along the Baltic Sea coast. The gift was accompanied by a Latin dedication: “With the highest respect and in spiritual unity, we offer this gift to Your Holiness as a sign of gratitude and unity from the communities that form the Regional Stations of Polish Radio.”
A message of hope in a world marked by war
At the Dicastery for Communication, the agreements were formally signed on behalf of the Prefect, Paolo Ruffini, by the Dicastery’s Secretary, Fr. Lucio Adrian Ruiz.
“This is an important moment, because all of us who work in communication bear a great responsibility toward the world—to convey the truth and to sow hope in people’s hearts,” Fr. Ruiz said.
Reaching millions of listeners
Mirosław Kasprzak, head of Polish Radio Lublin, noted that cooperation with Vatican Media represents the fulfillment of the mission of public media for regional broadcasters in Poland.
He added that the content of Poland’s regional radio stations reaches nearly 60 million Polish speakers—around 37 million in the country and almost 20 million abroad.
“We hope that our example will encourage other language sections of Vatican Radio–Vatican News to sign similar agreements,” he said.
A year ago, five Polish editorial teams signed a similar agreement. This year, the number has doubled, demonstrating the positive results of the cooperation.
